Heritage of Handmade
This 8-legged concept map was part of my early research while choosing a topic for my graduate thesis project. I knew I wanted to write about the resurgence of the handmade aesthetic, but I wasn't sure how. I created this "hipster octopus" to organize and visualize my early research into the history, motivation, technology, appeal, politics, marketplace, community and culture of handmade objects and designs. I was particularly struck with the complicated relationship between the handmade and technology, which is ultimately what I focused on for my final project. To learn more about this project, you can view my 100 Hybrid Type studies (digital + analog) in the nav above, or head over to Hybrid-Type.com to read more about each study or download the full paper.
